We are excited to announce that KTC has achieved a new standard of sustainability accreditation for its Hard Palm Kernel Oil (HPKO). This product is now officially certified as RSPO sustainable segregated - meaning the palm derivative used in its formulation is only obtained from RSPO SG-certified sources.
HPKO is ideal for use in ice cream and confectionary products. Made from 100% vegetable oil (palm and palm kernel), HPKO is both suitable for vegans and low in trans fats - making it a versatile, multi-purpose product that meets a wider range of dietary requirements.
This sustainable accreditation is an exciting development in the oils and fats market, as it offers food manufacturers specialising in confectionery and ice cream a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly alternative. It is particularly useful for ice cream and confectionery brands looking to develop vegan alternatives to existing products, and those wanting to cater for the growing number of environmentally conscious consumers.
Gary Lewis, Chief Commercial Officer at KTC, said:
“We are excited to announce that KTC HPKO is now available as certified sustainable segregated.
We’re committed to playing our part in making certified sustainable palm oil the standard in our industry - so we’re delighted to have been able to introduce a new product to the confectionery and ice cream market that delivers on versatility and performance, whilst also being better for people and the planet.”
KTC HPKO contains no additives, allergens or GM ingredients, offering a neutral odour and flavour that works well in both dairy-based and vegan products.
This accreditation demonstrates KTC’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. In addition to being the first UK company to sign the Sustainable Palm Oil Manifesto, KTC recently became a member of The Sustainable Coconut and Coconut Oil Roundtable, and signed the Sustainable Coconut Charter - a voluntary framework which sets a global benchmark for sustainable coconut origins.
KTC also holds several industry accreditations and certifications, including The Soil Association and The Vegan Society.
Certified Sustainable Segregated HPKO is the latest addition to the company’s growing range of high-quality edible oils and fats, joining a number of other products in the KTC range – including the UK’s first and only Halal beef dripping, as well as a recently launched premium Italian lard.
Founded in 1972, KTC Edibles employs more than 410 people across two UK sites in Wednesbury and Liverpool. The company supplies more than 250m litres of cooking oils to customers of all sizes across the UK food industry each year. All the palm oil supplied by KTC is RSPO certified sustainable.
